Siemens Simatic S5 Output Module

The Siemens 6ES5 456-7LA11 is a digital output module for the Simatic S5-115U/H/F series of programmable logic controllers. The module is now obsolete and is no longer available to purchase from the Siemens catalogue. Northern Industrial offer ongoing support for this module. The digital output module convert the internal signal levels of the PLC into binary signal levels required by the process.

Design of 6ES5456-7LA11

The digital output module comprises of

• Green LEDs for indicating signal status
• Short circuit detection
• Group signalling output for short circuits (latching relay) with reset input
• RED LEDs for indicating a short circuit

The signal leads must be connected with front connectors. They can be labeleld in the field next to the LEDs. The module address (the parameter when programming) is solt dependent and need therefore not be set on the module.

Principle of Operation

The 6ES5 456-7LA11 converts the internal output signal of the programmable controller to the load voltage levels (DC to AC) used to control the process. The output voltage rages are fixed. A selection of 2 or 3 ranges is available on some modules. The 6ES5456-7LA11 is shorted circuit protected (expect for the relay outputs). Protection is provided either electronically or by means of fuses. The RED LED also indicates when a fuse has blown. Parallel connection of the output is only possible with the relay outputs.
