The 6ES5943-7UB21 is a central processing unit (CPU) designed for the Simatic S5-115U range of programmable logic controllers. The 6ES5943-7UB21 is sometimes refered to as the CPU943.
The 6ES5943-7UA11 can be programmed in the STEP 5 programming language. For programming under GRAPH 4 the standard function block of the same name is required.
The 6ES5943-7UB21 central processing unit contains:
STEP 5 processor for processing the user program
Internal prgoram memory (RAM)
Integral hardware clock (in CPUs with 2 interfaces)
Receptacle for 375 memory submodule (RAM/EPROM/EEPROM)
Run/Stop switch with corresponding LEDs
Switch for setting retentiveness of bit memories, timers and counters
Switch for overal reset (resetting the entire user RAM of the CPU)
Built in 20 mA (current loop) interface for connection of a programming device or operator panel or for connection to the Sinec L1 LA
RAM submodules extend the internal RAM on the 6ES5943-7UB21. When the RAM submodules are removed from their receptacles in the CPU, the data is erased. Programs and data can be stored on 375 memory submodules (EPROM or EEPROM) to protect them from power failure. The memory submodule are programmed on the programming device using the receptacle provided for this purpose and are then plugged into the CPU. Northern Industrial offer a wide range of RAM submodule and can offer assitance programming these units.

The software protection feature prevents inadvertent overwriting or read out of programs by unauthorized persons

The clock can be set and read. It can also be used for counting operating hours or interrupt functions
The operation system incorporates a number of functions block programmed in machine language, which can execute at extremely high speeds and do not occupy any space in the integral function blocks. These integral function blocks are called in the same way as any other blocks in the user program and can only be interrupted by process interrupts.
