The Control Techniques BA3401 is a 18.5KW, 35A, 380...480V AC inverter.  Part of the Affinity range, this AC drive is designed specifically for HVAC and refrigeration systems to meet the needs of consultants, contractors and owners of commercial buildings. The Affinity range, including the BA3401, includes an variety of features expected of a dedicated 18.5KW HVAC drive as well as some additional characteristics:

  • Fire Mode for building occupant safety
  • Two independent PID controllers can, for example, control dampers or valve actuators to eliminate external equipment
  • Free software tools for – Energy saving calculations, carbon dioxide saving calculations, harmonic analysis, commissioning and monitoring
  • Onboard controller with real-time clock, ideal for reducing costs and improving performance in standalone applications and OEM solutions
  • Sleep/wake mode automatically switches off a fan or pump when demand drops below a threshold for a certain time
  • Motor pre-heat to prevent condensation
  • Low load detection to sense mechanical problems such as a broken drive belt
  • All Affinity models have integrated reactors to control supply harmonics. This saves space and cabling costs
  • High switching frequency up 16kHz for quiet motor operation
  • Smart card data storage for – Specific macros for simplifying set up of common HVAC applications, easy back up and copying of drive configuration
  • Integrated network connectivity – BACnet, Metasys N2, Modbus TRU
  • Optional connectivity, through click-in option modules – LonWorks, Ethernet, Additional I/O
  • Pluggable terminals for simple installation and maintenance
Commissioning the BA3401


Setting up the Affinity inverter is quick and easy Simply use a multilingual keypad, Smartcard or the supplied commissioning software which guides the user through the configuration process.

Affinity Keypad – Simple, intuitive plain language interface for configuring and maintaining the drive. A help button is included on the keypad to display more information in case it is required.

Smartcard – This credit card sized data storage device quickly downloads parameters to the inverter or can back up and copy settings from one inverter to another. To use the Smartcard, you simply insert it into the VSD and then use the keypad to select the appropriate macro for your application.

Option Modules – I/O and connectivity option modules can be simply clicked into position under the drive. This requires no additional space and enables you to adapt key drive functionality at any time to meet changing project needs. Ethernet modules, for example, enable the inverter to be accessed from anywhere in the building, or even in the world.
