The award winning graphical keypad utilised on the FC-302 ensures drive commissioning is intuitive, fast and straightforward. One of our favourite features is the info button that acts as a virtual manual - ideal when you need a helping hand. That said, the ability to display 5 process values and the quick menu for setting up basic parameters is also useful.

No motor derating

Thanks to the special switching pattern in the FC-302 there is no need to use a larger derated motor. No extra heating in the motor even at full speed or full load. Aside from the motor cost savings on new installations the FC-302 can provide up to 5% energy saving.

Maximise space

Sometimes fitting everything into a control panel can seem like a game of Tetris. Thankfully the VLT FC-302 is one of the smallest variable speed drives on the market, is up to 68% smaller than its predecessors and offers “side by side” mounting with 0 mm clearance. Depending on your situation this could mean more drives in the same panel or a small panel for the same number of drives. Boffins at Danfoss have calculated upto 5% of the drive cost can be saved in reducing panel space.

Safety first

Even in the most safety conscious factory accidents still happen. The VLT Automation Drive FC-302 is designed with safety in mind with safe stop functionality suitable for category 3 installations as defined by EN 954-1 and SIL 2/IEC 61508. This unique feature prevents a drive from starting accidently. This is crucial for applications where preventing unintended starts are of vital importance. The FC 302 terminal 37 can be used as “safe coast” for this purpose – the stop function satisfies stop category 0 EN 60204-1.

Upgrading from VLT5000 to the FC 302

Upgrade VLT5000 to FC 302

Upgrading from a VLT5000 series to the VLT AutomationDrive is easy. You can even upgrade large scale installations that are run through Profibus communications pretty simply.

No need to alter parameters

The Drive Conversion Wizard in the MCT software, which is free to download from Danfoss, will automatically convert your VLT5000 or 6000 parameters to the latest generation FC 302 drives at a click of a button. This solves one of the major problems when replacing an old VLT drive.

Mounting made easy

Reduce downtime and mounting costs when exchanging a VLT 5000 with an FC 302. Pre-drilled adaptor plates make it easy to mount a new FC 302 frequency converter in place of a VLT 5000. Not only does this reduce installation costs, it also eliminates the need for additional modifications to the cabinet or panel saving you both time and money.

Using Profibus? No problem

Thanks to the MCA 114, an innovative VLT Profibus Converter Module, replacing a VLT 5000 drive is incredibly straightforward. By emulating the VLT 5000 commands on the PROFIBUS network, PLC commands to the VLT 5000 are automatically translated in the MCA 114 to the FC 302. This eliminates the need to rewrite the PLC program and helps you get back up and running quickly in the event of downtime.

Built-in Smart Logic Controller

FC 302 deconstructed

The Smart Logic Controller is a simple but clever way to keep your drive, motor and application working together. With the controller you can add user specific functionality to your drive and monitor specified events. When an event occurs the controller performs a predefined actions and begins monitoring for the next predefined event. There are 20 steps of events. Logic functions can be selected and run independently from the sequence control. This enables drives to monitor variables or signal defined events in an easy and flexible way independently of the motor control.

How to find your VLT AutomationDrive part number

The part number for your FC 302 inverter drive can be located on a label stuck to the top of the drive. This is the number we will need if you need us to supply a replacement drive, or the number you should use to search for prices online.
