These are all signs that your HMI or touch screen needs a repair - we can help you with that. We’ve made our HMI repair service easy and hassle free. And what’s more, our unique No Fix No Fee promise means if it’s beyond repair, you won’t pay.
From bulky CRTs to the slickest LCDs, we support a vast array of current and obsolete HMIs with our repairs. We repair industrial operator panels from the world’s leading brands including:
A cracked touch screen is a modern industrial nightmare for many maintenance engineers. Without a backup of the program, no spares in sight and production stopped, your life lies there shattered on the floor. It’s not all bad as Northern Industrial is well versed at replacing touch screen glass and hold replacement glass in stock for most of the major touch screen brands including Siemens, Allen Bradley, Omron, Schneider and Mitsubishi.
An unresponsive touch screen is only an impatient person away from becoming cracked or broken. Before that happens, we can replace the touch membrane in your HMI to bring it back to full sensitivity. With many membranes in stock and a list of trusted suppliers for many more, we can replace the touch membranes on almost any touch screen HMI.
Is your touch screen or HMI still functional but extremely dim to the point of not being able to read the text even when you’ve turned the brightness all the way up? Can you still make out the image if you shine a torch directly at the screen? This probably suggests the backlight inverter in your industrial HMI will need replacing. Similarly a flickering screen can be the result of a poor connection or faulty bulb. We have a wealth of experience in replacing backlight inverters and hold stock for most of the leading brands of industrial monitors to ensure fast turnaround times.
Faulty displays covers a wide variety of issues. On the surface, it means anything that goes wrong with your HMI or touch panel. This includes all of the issues outlined above, below and anything else we haven’t mentioned. Maybe it’s something to do with the communications rather than the screen itself, or it is failing to even switch on. Whatever the problem, we can help. We keep replacement HMI components in stock for a wide range of operator panels meaning we can offer quick turnaround for many faulty displays.
A common problem with HMIs and touch screen panels is when the picture rolls off the screen and you can no longer view the contents. Sometimes it might just be a little bit and you can work around it, but it may get gradually worse. Sending it in for a service before it becomes a real problem means you can take it out of service at a time that is convenient to you.
“It’s completely dead” is a common fault description provided to our engineers. This often means your touch screen has an internal fault on one of the printed circuit boards, probably in the power section. This is no problem for our highly trained electronic engineers who are able to repair down to component level. By replacing faulty components like capacitors, relays and ICs, we can return you operator panel back to life.
Having those irritating lines across your operator panel display is another common issue with HMIs and industrial monitors. They can be caused by a variety of issues from simple loose connections to built up ingress and more serious panel damage. We repair operator panels down to component level and can solve a number of issues relating to lines on your screen.
Today most HMIs are more than just a display, they can also have complex fieldbus networks to enable them to integrate into the rest of your control system. Like anything else, your communications can also experience problems and make using your HMI to interact with other parts on your control system impossible. This is where we come in. We have engineers with experience in all communication protocols including Modbus, Profibus, DeviceNet, CAN, Interbus, Ethernet, Profinet.
When you think of repairing HMIs, it’s more common to think of fixing hardware problems such as failure to power on or broken screens. Here at Northern Industrial we can also assist with software issues. If you’re having trouble with any software on your HMI operator panel give us a call. We can assist with tasks such as cloning hard drives and reloading software to get your HMIs back to full functionality.
The divide between Panel PC and HMI has become increasingly blurred over the past 20 years. Most operator panels have programs, parameters and settings stored onboard which can cause serious problems if lost. That is why we will always backup your operator panel’s parameters when possible.
As with drives and other industrial equipment, touch screens and HMIs also have components that degrade with age, eventually leading to the failure of your operator panel. These components include electrolytic capacitors which can dry out or leak. When capacitors dry out they usually cause faults that are initially intermittent but then become more permanent whereas leakage onto internal circuit board can short between tracks with catastrophic results. These types of problems are avoided easily with a preventative maintenance service and is why we include them with every HMI repair we perform.
