The now obsolete Allen Bradley 1770-KFC15 is an interface module that enables RS-232 devices to be connected directly to ControlNet.  It most typical installations the AB 1770-KFC15 is used to directly connect a desktop PC or modem to the ControlNet network. The module connects to the ControlNet from one or both of its two BNC connectors via a standard 1 meter ControlNet coaxial tap.  

The module has three ports for device connections:

  • RS-232C serial port - provides half- or full-duplex communication with a serial node such as a host computer, an intelligent controller or a modem 
  • parallel port provides - half-duplex communication with a parallel host such as a computer (only in versions prior to V4.2)
  • network access port - lets you connect a programming terminal or other device to the module for full network access without disrupting the cable wiring

The 1770-KFC15 is configured by using the pushbuttons and seven-segment LED display in the configuration panel on the bottom of the unit. Use the pushbuttons and seven-segment LEDs in the configuration panel on the bottom of the unit to set and verify the ControlNet address for the module and all serial RS-232C or parallel communication parameters.

The module is compatible with a variety of interfaces including

  • RS-232C serial ports

  • PS/2 Parallel Ports
  • ControlNet Devices
